Replicating a seal for a classic Alvis car
7th July, 2020
Nightingale Coachtrimming help to carry out car restorations for a range of classic cars with their trimming specialities, boasting over 40 years in the industry.
At the start of the year, they were presented with a project where they had to source a rubber seal for an Alvis car. Alvis started producing cars before the war era ahead of later diversifying to become a major player in the aero and defence industries. Their models are well-loved by car collectors for their period character and classic designs.
For their project, Nightingale Coachtrimming first purchased a seal from an Alvis specialist to replace a section along the front header bar but it was unsuccessful. However, we were able to reproduce an exact copy of the original complex profile from a tiny sliver of rubber! The customer was happy to say that the new seal fitted perfectly and had some great feedback for us:
“Our customer got caught in a torrential downpour on the way home after collecting the vehicle and was delighted to remain completely dry!”
