Dock Gate Seals
26th January, 2017
Earlier this month, Aquaseal was approached by a customer to manufacture a B shape watertight dock gate seal to replace the original one fitted back in 1990. As this seal was nearly 27 years old, we knew we had to produce a replacement that would be matched in quality and longevity.
Aquaseal worked on the section of the gate seal that was being replaced and developed a raw material to be used for it. This meets the old specification so we proceed to make the seal in set lengths ready for the installation. The material needed to have a specific level of hardness and limited water absorption due to the environment it will be used in. This helps limit degradation and prolong longevity of the seal. Tests were ran on ageing to ensure the quality of the raw materials would be suitable for purpose.
The customer successfully fitted and tested the rubber seal on site at Hartlepool marina within the allocated time scale. Upon the successful competition of this fitting, the customer subsequently ordered another set of gate seals for another gate, which is due to be fitted early Feb 2017.
