Watertight Rubber Hatch Packing Seals
Aquaseal is a leading manufacturer of marine rubber products, with clients across the UK as well as the rest of the world.
Marine Rubber is rubber which is designed specifically to withstand the harsh environments faced at sea. Typically, marine rubber will need to be waterproof, flexible, and able to withstand extreme cold and ice. It will also need to be mould-proof, as marine rubber is typically used to seal important doors and hatches on ships and other vessels.
Hatch packing is a type of seal used to offer weather-tightness on board a ship. Hatch packings are developed to be UV radiation resistant and capable of withstanding a wide variety of temperatures.
Uses for marine hatch packings include:
- Tank lids
- Hatch covers
- Seals for cargo covers
- Access ramp doors
- Watertight doors
- Watertight skylights
- Watertight ullage plugs
Aquaseal is capable of producing specialist marine rubber hatch packing for naval ships, oil tanks, and chemical tanks. These feature fire-resistance and anti-corrosion characteristics to offer a longer lifespan and superior everyday performance.
There are two main types of marine hatch packing; sponge and marine solid rubber.
Sponge
- Open cell sponge core
- Solid, strong skin
- Offers excellent compression and minimum wear
Marine Solid
- Suitable for steel hatch covers
- Longer lifespan than sponge packing
- Lower overall tooling cost (due to easier and more frequent extrusion)
- Available in long and short runs
